Our Beliefs

Welcome to Lakewood Presbyterian Church Online

Lakewood Presbyterian Church is a church in the Reformed Tradition.

We Believe in...
  • Authority of Scripture. We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, originally given, to be the inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
  • Sovereignty of God. We believe that God rules with absolute control over all creation. He has foreordained all events and is therefore never frustrated by circumstances. This does not limit the will of the creature, nor does it make God the author of sin.
  • Salvation by grace. We believe that God in His grace and mercy has chosen to redeem a people to Himself, delivering them from sin and death.
  • Total depravity.  We believe that man is completely helpless in his sinful state, is under the wrath of God, and can in no way please God. Total depravity also means that man will not naturally seek to know God, until God graciously prompts him to do so.
  • Unconditional election.  We believe that God, from eternity past, has chosen to save a great multitude of sinners, which no man can number.
  • Limited atonement. We believe that Christ took the judgment for the sin of the elect upon Himself and thereby paid for their lives with His death. In other words, He did not simply make salvation “possible,” He actually obtained it for those whom He had chosen.
  • Irresistible grace.  We believe that In his fallen state, man resists God’s love, but the grace of God working in his heart makes him desire what he had previously resisted. That is, God’s grace will not fail to accomplish its saving work in the elect.
  • Perseverance of the saints. We believe that God protects His saints from falling away; thus, salvation is eternal.
  • The necessity of evangelism. We believe believe that Christians are in the world to make a difference, spiritually through evangelism and socially through holy living and humanitarianism.

Update on COVID-19

As we have been watching this unfold over the past week, things have dramatically changed. On Sunday they were recommending gatherings no larger than 500. This has been reduced to 50, then to 25, and the federal government is recommending 10. Your Sessions and Deacons and have been trying to read and stay on top of all this the best that they can. After much prayer and consideration, we have decided that we will cancel all services for the next three weeks. We are making an effort to find a way to live stream services on Sunday morning, but this may take some time and we are not sure when this might happen. We know that this is not an ideal situation, but we do believe that our governing officials are in good faith, seeking to mitigate the spread of this virus and its potential impact on the population. We encourage you to stay home, to stay safe, and to follow all the instructions that they are giving us to keep from spreading the virus.

Our Mission

We seek to glorify God by loving Him and by sharing Jesus Christ with our community and with the world. We emphasize the gospel of grace through joyful worship, biblical teaching, and genuine relationships.
